Default Check your Wagon Wheels
If you're still running the original wagon wheels on your pre-2000 C5, check them carefully for small cracks forming on the outside edge of the wheel. They may get bigger and look like this (leaking air was the tip-off):

scary! is this specific to the wagon wheels or might other C5 wheels of that age be affected? my 99 was built right at the end of the 99 year model and got the thin spokes.

Wagon wheels were suppose to be the strongest of the wheels installed on vettes. This is the first time I have seen this problem with them.

when I first bought my 97 used I pulled off the rims to have them powder coated and 3 out of 4 had the same type cracks but on the inside under the tire.scared me to think that I might not have known for a while and the powder coater refused to touch them.

Mine look good. Just put Michelin PS A/S ZPs on about 6 months ago.
A little bit of curb scrapes on the lip but thats all. Mine is a '98. BIGHANK

Mine will be 10yrs old in Nov. and look and drive perfectly after 57K miles.

They are chromed factory GM wheels, not knock offs!

That's something to be watching for! So far 70K miles and minor loss of air but changes with new set of tires, back left to front left(18" to 17"). Thanks for the heads-up. Jack

I had the same problem with my old wagon wheels.

That is why I had to upgrade to new rims. I ended up with C6 Z06 rims in stock C5 sizes.

Runflats with their hard sidewalls transfer the impact of potholes directly to the rim. I've got a few cracks but they did not leak.



I bought rims from a 2000 and nonrunflats now.
