Howling Diff....?
I recently changed out my diff fluid to Amsoil SVG. It is supposed to contain the limited slip additive. At first, I thought I could hear the diff chattering, but after trying some low speed turns and figure 8's I don't really hear it. However, I do hear a howling sound, that is clearly only present during low turns.
It's stock with the 3.42s, so I know it's not any of the notorious whining that can occurr when the gears are changed.
The AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 does contain friction modifier and use of additional friction modifier is not normally required in the C5 (I don't use any and my diff has never chattered), but is required in the C6.
What you are describing doesn't sound like diff chatter, but it is possible that you are hearing the clutch plates in the diff sliding across each other.
