Default Stereo install help...

I have a 2000 c5 and wanted to upgrade the stereo by putting an after market deck in it. I went to best buy and the guy told me, if I want to keep my 12 disc changer I couldn't put an after market deck in it. If anyone has any advice on what I need to do to upgrade my stereo, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, joe

You might want to try over in the audio/video forum...

From what I have read, the 12 disc changer becomes a paperweight when an aftermarket headunit is installed...

lots of good info in the audio/electronics!

As far as upgrading your h/u, I wouldn't suggest it until your ready for a full audio revamp. Reason being, your bose will sound like crap even with the special $85 adaptor you need. Best to replace everything at once.

I kept my stock bose system and h/u but installed a 1500watt amp with a 1200watt 12in kenwood sub for some kick. Sounds good and did it all for about $300. Check out your local swap meet and stereo shops.

Speaker with box $80
Almani 1500w amp $150
Pac adapter $30
Amp kit(wires) $20

to integrate into the factory Bose ("Blows") you will need an amp integration harness or do a amp "bypass". You will need to do this because there is a seperated amp from the factory head unit. If you go with an aftermarket head unit (which usually have a built in amp), you will most likely ruin your new head unit and the factory amp and it will sound like crap. I prefer to do a full am "bypass" and do an aftermarket 4 ch amp with all new speakers to get a kicking system. I am a authoried dealer for JL Audio and Alpine Electronics. I am currently in the process of building 2 custom stealth boxes for the side compartments, which will include a 8w3v3 in each location.

Default thanks

Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like my best bet is to just replace everything, now it's just getting the wife to be ok with it. lol!
