Default Grinding/Grating Sound Driver's Side Window

01 vert. I get this horrific 'fingers on the chalkboard' style sound when attempting to down the driver's side window. It will only go down about halfway and then stop. I do not see any scratch marks on the window, but I do hear a grinding/grating sound. Not having ever seen inside the door panel, I do not know what the inside looks like so I am asking for a little advice from anyone who has experienced this or has an insight as to what I need to look for. This is my daily driver, so my downtime needs to be as minimal as possible. TIA

Same thing happened to me ... the cable was binding and ended up breaking. If I was you I'd go ahead and order a new regulator assy (try Gene Culley at gmpartshouse.com -- lots cheaper than the dealership). Takes about an hour or so (maybe two with a cold beverage) to change.

Is the cable that is binding part of the regulator assy?

Yep ... the entire motor/track/cable assembly comes together as an assembly. I think you can get rebuilt motor if that is your problem (never tried as the motor wasn't my problem)!

that'd be the regulator.
it's very very common on the trucks.

you can buy them pretty cheap in comparison to the dealership online and whatnot, and it's about an hour to 2 hours to do it.
