Default C5 Fluid Capacity?

I've tried searching with almost zero success.

So, what are the fluid capacities of a C5 (and more importantly the Z06?)

I found these so far:

Engine oil = 6 qts (Although I think I've used 6.5 in the past, including filter)
Trans fluid = 4 qts (some will leak out)
Diff fluid = ??? (I think just under two qts???)

Thanks for any and all help.

Also, what is the proper gear fluid? 75w-90 or 75w-140?

And I was in a Kragen today trying to buy some Mobile 1 ATF. The only stuff they had was Mercon that is Dextron V. Says it is recomended for 2005 and older GM vehicles.

Will this work for the M12?

Or I might just switch over to Amsoil. I used to run Redline, however I am thinking about doing the Z06 and my '06 GMC Duramax/Allison with Amsoil now.

I just did the trans on my M6 last weekend. I used Royal Purple, found at my local parts store, Red Line makes a compatable Dex III also. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the preformance name brands.

I too could not find how many quotes of oil goes in the trans. I sucked out and replaced about 3 1/3 qts. If I didn't get it all, I got most of it!

Cooling system is 12.6 qts
Engine oil is 6.5 many fill to 7.0 qts

Rear diff is 1.69 qts of 75W90 synthetic gear oil + 4oz of GM or aftermarket posi additive ( put it in first)

MN12 4.1 qts on overhaul...drain and fill ~ 3
Dexron III fluid

During your search did you think to look in your Owner's Manual? All that info you seek is right there, including other cool stuff about your car.

Yes it did, however I would still like to thank you for pointing out what others may not think is the obvious answer/solution.

I appreciate you taking your time to interject this into a post that was already answered by helpful people. Did this make you feel better about yourself?

And I will retort with a, "My car is used primarily for racing and I 'think' my owners manual is locked away in a filing cabinet in a storage facility."

Confirming the above:
Engine oil: 6.5 to 7.0 quarts
Tranny: 3.7 quarts (order 4)
Diff: 1.7 quarts (order 2) (note: needs friction modifier which may or may not come in the fluid you get)

If you do decide to go with AMSOIL, I recommend:
Engine Oil:
AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30 (I use this in my 06 CTS-V)
AMSOIL SAE Synthetic 5w30 (slightly less expensive, but still excellent alternative)
Engine Filter: AMSOIL Ea Oil Filter (LS6 part EAO32)
Tranny Fluid: AMSOIL ATF (use this on the track and have this in my CTS-V)
Diff fluid: AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 (use this on the track and have it in my CTS-V)

FYI, I just traded my F350 tow vehicle for a GMC 5500 series chassis RV with the Duramax and Allison tranny and just ordered a full complement of AMSOIL filters and fluids for it. Changing all them out as a weekend project next weekend.

Dropping you a PM with info on the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program.

Missed this above... sorry.

For a track driven C5 Z06 where warranty and owner's manual requirements aren't an issue, I recommend:
Engine oil:
AMSOIL SAE 10w40 Formula 4-Stroke Marine Synthetic Motor Oil

I use and recommend this oil for several reasons. One, on the track, the Z06 oil gets really hot and I feel a 30 weight thins out way too much, resulting in low oil pressure and more wear. I think a 50 weight is a little too thick (I've used them), and a 40 weight about right. I use a Marine Motor oil because it was designed for sustained high rpm, high load conditions (like the track) and doesn't have to comply with new more restrictive API SM standards (thus it can have more anti-wear additives). The AMSOIL Marine Motor 10w40 has a very good High Temp High Shear rating of 4.6, the same as the Mobil 1 EP 15w50. So effectively, I'm getting 50 weight protection in a 40 weight saving internal friction losses. And finally, as a Marine Motor oil it has rust inhibitives which are helpful in my oil occasionally driven track car.

For the engine oil filter, I recommend the Wix 51042 (also carried by AMSOIL) due to lower cost and higher flow. Since I change the oil in my track Z06 about every 500 miles, I don't use the EAO32 in it (though I do have one in my CTS-V).

For the tranny, I have been using the ATF mentioned above, but last year AMSOIL reformulated to be suitable for use with GM's new Dexron VI specifications. In doing so, they lowered the viscosity from about 7.4 cSt to 6.8 cSt (Dexron VI is 6.5 cSt). I feel that on the track, I want a little higher viscosity so I'm switching to AMSOIL Torque-Drive Synthetic Transmission Fluid, which is also a Dexron III fluid and a fluid which AMSOIL does recommend for the C5 Z06. As a side benefit, this is the same fluid I'll be using in my new Allison tranny.

For the diff, I use the SVG mentioned above.

In the interest of trying to be one of the "helpful" people:

Just because you didn't like my earnest advice doesn't mean that I wasn't trying to be helpful. How was I to know your manual is not handy for you to refer to? Perhaps there is some underlying issue that would explain why you would jump to conclusions and get irritated with my reply to your request? Maybe you think you can even read someone's tone from a post? I don't know. In either case, I stand by my response that the very information you seek can be found in your Owner's Manual.
Your welcome!
