Default HUD problem: wont move down!

Hello all. I have been a lurker around here for a while and now I need some advice from fellow forum members. I have an Electron Blue 02' 6speed. I had always wanted the heads up display so I purchased a used one from a vendor on here and installed everything per instructions and the install seemed to go perfectly. Before putting everything back together I tested the HUD display and it projected on the dash just fine. But, after the install and after it was all put back together I noticed that the projector will move up but, not down. The next day I tore back into the dash to make sure the wiring was correct, and it appeared to be. Please give me any advice that you might have. I think it might just be the switch, but who knows. Thanks inadvance. I appreciate it. -Mark

HUD mirror movement is pretty simple. The switch toggles a line for up and another line for down. I can't remember if the switch pulls the line up or down. My guess is down. Check the voltage on the plug coming from the cluster to the HUD. It has been along time since I probed that plug but you will have 12VDC+, Ground, Mirror Up, Mirror Down, Dimmer, Data, Data Clock, and possibly the page control. On your mirror lines the voltage will toggle from 0 to 12, or 12 to 0 as you press the mirror control buttons. You must check it will all connections plugged up. If your voltages toggles your problem is inside the HUD. If not it is between the cluster and switch, including the possibly of a bad switch.

Is the switch to cluster cable a factory cable or built cable?

Have you tried contacting the vendor?

Thanks SpeedyZ, I appreciate it insight. I am going to rip into it tonight. It shouldnt take me too long, its only my 3rd time in the last 2 weeks to pull it apart. The harness is DIY harness, that I am 99.9% positive that it was built correctly. I will verify the harness was built correctly tonight and then grab the multimeter and see what I can figure out about the switch. Also I did contact the vendor a week ago and I got a response last night. He is gonna help me work through this. Thanks -mark

Well I got the problem taken care of. After getting the cluster out I hooked up the multimeter and started testing the continuity of the harness, and the middle green wire had an open circuit. After investigation and releasing the wire from the plug I noticed that the two little metal wings that make contact with the pin on the switch were bent outwards. So after pushing the wings back to the inside everything now works correctly, up and down movement. I am not sure how the contacts got bent outwards, I may have screwed it up when I built the DIY harness, but either way it now work and I can actually see the HUD with out scrunching my shoulders downwards. Thanks for everyone's advice. CF rules. -Mark
