Went to get gas today. Went to close the fuel door and it will not stay shut. I guess the little plunger on the side is sticking or something. When I took off down the road with the fuel door open, I reached out and tried to close again and it worked.
Anybody have this problem? Know what causes it? How it can be fixed?
I had the problem a few months ago. It turned out that the spring in the pin that locks the gas door rusted away and wouldn't pop back to lock the gas door. I did a search on this forum (Great Forum ) and found great procedures with pics to replace it. If you're a do-it-yourself kind of person it won't take longer than an afternoon to replace the spring. Good luck, hope this helps you.
WD-40 to the rescue.....
With the little red tube on so you can focus and direct the spray... spray around the pin then manualy push it in and let it spring back a few times.....
did the trick for me.... 1+ years later and no issues...
I am having this same problem and appreciate the help. I found this during a search on the site. I love this place! I will try the WD40 and then most likely replace with a stainless steel spring.
you might want to cheek the release button thats used to open the fuel door because a while back mine got stuck on the open position and would not let the fuel door latch engage.

How did you fix this problem? I might be in the same boat.
