Has anyone updated their pre-2001 steering column to a post 2001 without the column lock and reflashed the BCM to eliminate the column lock problem? Is this even possible?

Why replace the whole column for *way* more $$$?
Good point. BTW, if the "new" column is a power telescoping type and the "old" one is not, the BCM would need re-programming too. Not even sure if the earlier BCMs have that capability.

Overkill...........doing so would be like replacing the engine, when all it needed was new spark plugs and wires, just wouldn't make good sense to go that amount of work / expense.
