Default Engine Code Problem

I just purchased this beautiful car last week and now the check engine light is on. I had the code scanned today at a car parts store and the code said "Secondary Air Injection System Fault". I asked what that meant and they said "The air injection system is monitored for faults." I don't even know what an air injection system is, nor how it can be faulting. Does anyone ideas or similar problems on how to fix this or what it means?

Welcome to the forum! You came to the right place for ALL C5 knowledge! There are 1000's of people on here that will help you anyway they can.

First off got to http://corvetteforum.shelor.net/Docs...rd_Diagnostics and pull your codes using that information. You don't need to go have them pulled for you, you can do it yourself without even stepping out of the car. You can even clear the codes yourself. Write all you codes down, write down the entire line as displayed. Then come clear all your codes and go drive around some more and recheck your codes and see what comes back. Once done post your codes here and someone will tell you exactly what your problem is!

BTW: Your "air injection system" is the AIR (Air Injection Reaction) system which is a small electric air pump under your left front fender. It injects air into the exhaust to get the converters heated up quickly. It is only used for startup. These cars are pretty smart, they check themselves pretty good and will set codes to let you know whats wrong. There is several things that goes wrong with the AIR system. The codes will tell us which part is failing. Normally the system is fairly simple to fix.

read how to pull up your codes and post the actual codes. you have have a lot of people give you suggestions on how to fix it.

The code number is P0410. I read that it could be the air pump, so I will look into that to see if it is infact the air pump or just the wiring.

That is awesome , this website should be saved in everyone's favorites... I thought I had to buy a handheld device to do this stuff. Is there another website that tells what the codes mean?

That is the meaning of the code, how to fix it is a whole other problem.

You would be wise to buy a set of service manuals from Gene at GMpartshouse.com for your model year.

There is a series of procedures to follow to diagnose problem.

First thing is to check the fuse for air pump, if not that you'll need a service manual to follow procedures, as there are about 30 steps.

Good luck with getting it fixed.

Have a tuner tune it out. It is not an engine critical code, only a minor emmissions code.
