well,
I've gotta 01 LS1 m6 w/65k, and I'm looking to put 3.73 on the rear. I hear that these gears make a difference in pulling power. Need some input as what to expect, and is 65k on dash too much for this setup??
I wouldn't think 65K would be a problem. I spoke to DTE at a recent show and may go for this myself as soon as I get rid of some of my clutter I have in the for sale section
I put 3:73 in mine. It made a 'nice' difference and was noticable. However, I CONSTANTLY look back and wish I had gone with the 4:10. It is an expensive mod so make sure you look into it. I wish I had.....
3.90's seem to be the best of both worlds. Close to Z06 gearing (GM musta known something when they decided to put those ratios in there), plus only approx 200rpm increase at 80mph on the highway so you're not going to lose a TON of speed/mpg upstairs. 4.10's are a bit extreme for a daily driver from what I see/hear when it comes to fuel economy and rpms on the highway......and 3.73's aren't a "huge" change over the stock 3.42's.
Lots of guys also note that the occasional chatter on puck clutches (like my OZ700) goes away with the taller gears.
depends on what you are going to do with your car regarding mods and driving style.
I have run 3.42, 4.10 and 3.73s. Each had their own place - well except the 3.42s I had no choice with those
The 4.10s I loved for a street car. Very good manners on the street and you get that extra punch when you need it. They are also great for the 1/4 mile.
I now have 3.73 because of road racing. I wanted something more than the 3.42s, but the 4.10s required way too many shifts around a track. The 3.73s give me that range I am looking for in a gear set and helps keep me in the HP zone longer.

Most say that it's better to go to a 3.90 or 4.10, the difference between 3.42 and 3.73 doesn't justify the cost of the swap. The MN6 has tall enough overdrives that you can still keep the highway RPMs pretty low. However, if you plan to go forced induction or a stroker down the road then it may be best to stick with the 3.42s or else it'll never hook up.
