Ok so my crank pulley was squeaking and wobbling so I bought an undrive pulley and will have it installed soon. While in there I thought I should go ahead and do a cam since i have been wanting to do it and dont want to pay for the same labor twice. So here is the question, what is the best bang for my buck, what is the biggest most powerful cam I can put in with doing the cam only?? If I was to go with say the G5X3 or Magic Stick do I only have to replace the pushrods and springs or is there more that has to be replaced.....by the way on a very tight budget, the military doesnt pay much to its enlisted folks!
I am 99% sure u can put a magic Stick in without Fly cutting pistons , i am sure someone else will chime in , all you need is a set of patriot gold dual valve springs & have them installed along with hardend pushrods & you will be rdy to rock , i would ABSOULETLY change the cam if you are getting rdy to pull the rack
I just read that entire post had a lot of great info. It really pushes a smarter combo with a small cam. Although still need to know if i have to replace the pushrods, and valve springs when replacing a cam or is the stock ones ok with a mild cam setup. Also what is a ball park price to port stock heads??
I'd say go for it. Springs are recommended and won't set you back too much. I'dlisten to the clips floating around here to see which sounds the best to you!
Everything is recommended. But not needed. It depends on if you love your engine or not. Also depending on the size of cam you go with. You might want to look into a new oil pump either an aftermarket or a proted Z06 pump.
My advice would be to save up some more money and do a complete head/cam job later on. That way you only need to tune it once. Tunes can cost $400+ each time you do something.
