Default Failed emmision test need help !!!

The car is using o2 simulators and I need to know what needs to be done to pass the test thx.
code I got:
Catalyst efficiency status=not ready
Evaporative system status=not ready
Heated oxygen sensor system=not ready
secondary air system=ready
oxygen sensor system=ready
Got the car from Minnesota which has no emmision test.
Car has LG header, no cat, Z06 muffler. My guess is to buy cats to put back on the car?

Not sure what the rules are in IL but if you were in CA I would tell you to:

Find a set of exhaust manifolds (or pop for some shortys) and H pipe with good cats that fit your year car. Remove every thing between the heads and the TI’s and install your new (used) parts including good working O2 Sensors (4). Clear the codes again and drive around until the monitored systems change from “not ready” to “ready” or the Check eng light comes back on because they won’t change to “ready”.

If you don’t have a visual inspection in your state then you could leave the long tubes and just add cats to the existing system. Just keep in mind that the new cats will have to perform very close to what a stock cat would do or you could still get a cat efficiency code. Good luck.

It would appear to me that you either rest the codes in the computer or had the battery disconnected long enough to clear the computer.

The emissions system requires a "drive cycle" before reporting a ready status.

do you have a check engine light on? or reset the computer or disconnect the battery?

only problem I have is most of the time it takes 2 tries to start the engine and the error code has something to do with o2 sensor. I wonder if I just need to get the o2 sensor deleted or something is wrong with the simulator.

it sounds like your o2 sims are bad. try a new set would be the cheapest way to go unless you want to buy some cats which something still cause p430 & p420 codes.

My understanding from posts here in the past is that 02 simms will not pass the computer check in emissions testing but I've never verified that myself. Depending on the state, you can generally pass with one or two "Not Ready" checks on the list. If, after you correct your issue, you still have some "Not Ready" indicators, you'll need to run through the GM OBDII driving cycle.

I had reloaded a previous tune in my C5 with EFI Live when I moved up here to Indiana and then had to have the emissions test. I used EFI Live to check the emissions status and it indicated I would not pass so I drove most of the GM OBDII driving cuycle below, pulled over and checked the status and it had enough to pass so I drove straight to the emissions station, had it test and passed. They no longer check emissions here.

General Motors' OBD-II driving cycle

• Cold Start. In order to be classified as a cold start, the engine coolant temperature must be
below 50°C (122°F) and within 6°C (11°F) of the ambient air temperature at start-up. Do not
leave the key on prior to the cold start or the heated oxygen sensor diagnostic may not run.

• Idle. The engine must be run for two and a half minutes with the air conditioner on and rear
defroster on. The more electrical load you can apply the better. This will test the O2 heater,
Passive Air, Purge "No Flow", Misfire and if closed loop is achieved, Fuel Trim.

• Accelerate. Turn off the air conditioner and all the other loads and apply half throttle until
88km/hr (55mph) is reached. During this time the Misfire, Fuel Trim, and Purge Flow diagnostics
will be performed.

• Hold Steady Speed. Hold a steady speed of 88km/hr (55mph) for 3 minutes. During this time
the O2 response, air Intrusive, EGR, Purge, Misfire, and Fuel Trim diagnostics will be performed.

• Decelerate. Let off the accelerator pedal. Do not shift or touch the brake or clutch. It is important to let the vehicle coast along gradually slowing down to 32km/hr (20 mph). During this time the EGR, Purge and Fuel Trim diagnostics will be performed.

• Accelerate. Accelerate at 3/4 throttle until 88-96 km/hr (55-60mph). This will perform the same
diagnostics as in step 3.

• Hold Steady Speed. Hold a steady speed of 88km/hr (55mph) for five minutes. During this time, in addition to the diagnostics performed in step 4, the catalyst monitor diagnostics will be
performed. If the catalyst is marginal or the battery has been disconnected, it may take 5
complete driving cycles to determine the state of the catalyst.

• Decelerate. This will perform the same diagnostics as in step 5. Again, don't press the clutch or
brakes or shift gears.

You may need to try several drive cycles. If it still doesnt pass the readiness monitors, it probably due to an issue with the 02 sims.
See, the PCM runs the readiness monitors in a certain order. And there is whats referred to as blocking stratagies in play.
Long story short, you have to pass the 02 readiness monitors before it will test and pass/fail the catalyst and evap tests.
Unless of course its the 02 HEATER monitor only, which I believe it runs after you turn the car off and walk away. Not sure, they (readiness monitors) are very complicated and I dont have the specifics in front of me.
If you need any info, I have a subscription to alldata, and can give you more specific info tomorrow morning from the shop. Just PM if you have to.
Just re-read your post. Looks like it passed the 02 readiness, and just needs to pass the heater monitor. So, it should be able to run the catalyst and evap/purge tests.

I got the 2 simulators deleted and will see how it goes after a week of driving.
Ok about the driving cycle, I have to do all of them or just one to complete the cycle?

I am just guessing that you are running the front O2's and have simulators on the rear ones....is that right? If so, I had the rear O2's deleted and have not had a problem, as long as you do not have to pass a smog test.....

Now I'm not saying but I've heard you can turn off codes with HP Tuners and other tuning packages....

My car has no codes when emission time comes around.

There is typically 3 things they test in IL.

1) Gas cap/filler neck
2) OBD codes
3) I/M monitors (this is what he's failing).

These I/M monitors check things like heated O2 sensors, catalyst efiiciency, EGR rediness. He may NEVER pass without all the goodies in place since 1/2 the O2 sensors are missing-catalyst efficiency can be calculated at all.

You would be correct. My car was tuned with HP tuners and I had the codes for the airpump, rear O2's, and Cats turned off! Also has the fans turned down to 180 degrees
