If you shredded the couplers in the torque tube you would hear it spinning around in there.
some have even been able to drive with these torn all apart. seems if it broke clean thru it would make some noise. maybe its the rear one and that is the noise
My bet is that you broke the output shaft in the tranny to the diff. If you downshifted to fast and caused the rear wheels to hop just a little is all it takes.
this part i have never had experience with but many say it happens
What did you have to do to get it fixed and what did it run you? I dropped the car off today so I should know something next week.
I pulled the rear and tranny out myself, bought the hardened trans output shaft from G-force transmissions, (around $550) and my friend who lets me use his shop rebuilt the trans for me, and while in there he also replaced the 3rd gear synchros. Total parts were less than $600,
and he just charged me his normal hourly rate for the time he spent fixing the trans. If you are paying someone to do this, you can expect to pay about $1k in labor alone as it is pretty time consuming to remove the diff and tranny. HTH
Had a similar problem and upon disassembly found I had shredded the coupler on the drive shaft within the torque tube and that took out the slave clutch cylinder. The coupler is internal in the torque tube and connects the output shaft to the driveline. Ended up replacing the torque tube and slave cylinder.
We're all concerned with drivetrain breakage, hoping it won't happen to us. I wish I could rev it up and side step the clutch without wishing I had a hardened this or that, all surrounded with a braced cage thingy.
I'm at 50,000 miles and still have a stock clutch that's the original. I know I'm going to get the dreaded bam! clung, clunk someday.
At least I've a new Z06 clutch assembly sitting in the shop.
I keep waiting for GM to come up with some super strong transaxle and driveshaft, maybe on the Blue Devil, hope it bolts up.
