Default Vararam ?

I purchased a Vararam a few weeks ago on sale from Cajundude. I have not yet installed it. After reading some more posts on here it seems some guys need to have their car tuned after installing it to work properly. My car in an 02 Z06 and I'm wondering how many of you had to have a tune or is it just a good idea to get one or is it not necessary? Thanks

I purchased mine from Cajundude a few weeks ago too - and installed it recently... i haven't had a tune done - but i definately noticed an improvement with the VaraRam...

Just going from 200* Engine Bay temperatures my Twin Cone K&N was breathing, to ~60 Fresh Air temps prolly added a few HP right there!

I'd wait till you had an Intake and Headers before getting a Tune - but a full dyno tune will never hurt...

You're supposed to drive the car for about 1 hour at a constant speed of about 60mph for the computer to retune itself for added fresh air.

And that's it !

No tune after vararam and it ran great but a year later I did a Predator tune - stronger now but I mostly like the shift improvements for my A4. Tune not necessary in most cases. I would wait for more bolt-ons (esp after headers).

I've had mine in for a few months now without a tune. Big SOTP difference. It will reprogram itself( the car) if you follow the instructions. An hour or so cruise at highway speeds should do it.I do think that a tune would help though, although it is probably not necessary.I would like to tighten up and correct my shift points since I have an A4 trans. However, if you plan on other mods, get a tune after everything is done, so you only have to do it once. Follow cajundudes instructions on the install, and remember to oil the filter( K&N paper type) before you install it. You need to do this, and it is not mentioned in the instructions. Good luck and have fun.

You do not need to get a tune with just the VaraRam install. As mentioned above, just drive around for a while.

How do you properly oil the filter? I did not do this since the directions did not mention it. What type of oil? How do you apply it?

I have been getting codes (PCM P0171 and P0174) and my check engine light is on since I installed the Vararam in my '03 Z06.

Jason,

One more question. I do quite a few HPDEs with my 02 Z06. Will the rush of 120mph air in the Vararam have an adverse affect on the settings or will the computer adjust for that also. Thanks,

I installed all the bolt ons from the vararam to the exhaust at once. The car ran perfect without a tune. A year later when I had my first cam installed is when the car was tuned. If I didnt install the cam, I would not have had the car tuned. There was no downside performance after all the bolt ons were installed.

Bought it from the right man.
No tune required. Just drive for a while for the computer to recal.

The install is not that bad, follow CajunDude's instructions, take your time, and don't tighten everything down until you join the two intake sections. Other than that, it's cake.

I installed mine myself, and haven't had it tuned since then, and I run 145-147mph at WGI with no ill effects.
