So I clicked over the 100,000 mile marker a couple weeks ago and I got thinking, I've never had the diff oil or tranny fluid changed. I'm sure these need to be done, but I was just wondering how often they should be changed on our cars? I have a 97 MN6.

When tha axle seals leak bad enough to tick ya off. I changed mine @ 210,000
Its pretty easy to do. Hmmm....lets say every 2 years or 20,000 miles. Yup..that should do it. The fluid does get hot and breaks down. Do it now, and every few years. Get a set of ramps, you can do it yourself pretty easily. My shifting really improved when I changed the tranny fluid.

I change both diff & tranny at 15 - 20K ...... to me it's cheap insurance given that the car is driven daily, often in stop and go traffic.
Get the car up high enough so you have access to both transmission and differential.
The differential has 2 10mm hex plugs, one for draining, I believe it's on the passenger side at the low point. The fill plug is on the rear of the differential facing the back of the car.
Use the same method, drain then fill. The Differential takes 2 quarts of fluid.
While you're under there service them both. I use Royal Purple products, see my signature below....

I changed my differantal fluid a couple months ago after putting on 1000 miles on my 3.90s. Itwas so easy a cavemen could do it
I have my tranny fluid changed when the clutch was being replaced the 2nd time. I asked the Mark the mechanic as ECS who was replacing my clutch and he said it depends on how much I liked my car. I told him since he was installing the 2nd new clutch in 3 months, I really dont like the car now, but change the fuild anyway. It was right there and easy to do.
I wont change them again for another 5 years or 25,000 miles. Which ever comes first. I put on about 3000 miles a year. The car is 7 1/2 years old and has 23000 miles. I change the cam more than anything else.
