Default Air pump

I have seen here that it goes back towards the steering column and is connected to the air pump into the exhaust stream. The air pump has to pull fresh air from somewhere, so it is hooked there. Hope this helps, you can also try to follow the hose back to check out where it goes.

It's the source of (filtered) air to the air pump. The air pump (controlled by the PCM) then injects the air into the exhaust manifolds.

It allows the emissions level to remain low while the heated oxygen sensors heat up and the engine warms up. It only takes a minute or two for this to happen and then the air pump turns off. This process mainly takes place during a "cold start". If the engine is already warmed up, nothing happens.
