Default Tire Pressure Sensor Question (2000) HELP!!

I got a "working" used tire press sensor in the mail the other day and I wanted to make sure it worked BEOFRE taking the tire to the shop to put it in, I just held it over the RF tire (after I programmed the LF tire) with the magnet and it did not set, does there need to be pressure on the sensor before it starts transmitting?? I just wanted to see if it would work first, help me out guys, I know its not the magnet

My 2001 Service Manual indicates that the TPMS should "work" when a magnet is placed over them, regardless of tire pressure.

One possibility .... let the "new" sensor sit still for AT LEAST two minutes, and then use the magnet to wake it up (Don't move the sensor - Maybe tape it to the floor or the rim and let it sit for 2 minutes before starting the PROGRAM process).

If you move the snsor before applying the magnet it can possibly be "awake" and not transmit the correct data at the time you need it too.

I have programed my new Series I sensors just by using a magnet without them being installed.

If you move the magnet around the valve stem if may help.

After I replaced the batteries in my sensors, I sat inside the car and trained them, then marked them as to their assigned position and then had them installed. Worked out great.
