Poll Does your C5 use oil?
I thought I would start a new poll on oil use and separate MN6s (manual) from A4s (automatics). Also it's arbitrary but I think a 2000, and 500 mile level will be good breaks

I'm in the fourth year of owning my MN6 coupe with 18,500 miles. It had never used 1 drop of oil the entire time I have owned the car. I use Mobil 1 10w-30 and Mobil 1 M-107 filters and change the oil at max every 3000 miles or 50% on the DIC.

It depends on how I drive -m6
On track, it will use 1 qt in 2 tanks of gas. Thats about 1 qt in ~250-300 miles
On street, it will use hardly any. Maybe 1/2 qt in a month.

Initially my 00 used a quart every 1,300 miles. Thought it was finally sealing on its own, but yesterday checked the oil level and with less than 1,000 miles since the last change, it is real close to a quart down.
Looks like I'll be talking with the dealer about rings soon.

MY NM6 USES NOTHING, NADA, ZIP, ZILCH,NYET...between oil changes, and Yes, it sees upper RPMs probably more than it should. Still using MOBIL 1. Broke it slowly for the first 500 miles. After that, normal....BTW...it's a 2K with about 13,000 miles, not used as a daily driver. THIS CAR IS GREAT!!! :flag

Re: Poll Does your C5 use oil? (Richin Chicago)
I just got the car in Aug. with 9500 miles on it. at about 10500 after I had to add a quart. I checked it before I left town and it was a quart low when I got to my destination. about 250 miles. Im not sure how it was broke in? What has the dealers said about the usage?

As an aside it is interesting to note that, so far, 52 of the 74 responses are from cars with manual transmissions. Given that manuals only account for roughly 30% of the cars sold... Well it makes me proud to be part of this forum!!!

A4 burned 1 qt in 4000 miles including 12-15 hard runs at the track.

An academic point - in general it is NOT a good idea to present poll results in 'percentage of total' form unless you restrict the 'number of variables' to ONE. Here you have two - oil consumption by mileage range AND transmission type. IN GENERAL, such presentation of results can lead to confusion and/or misleading interpretations.
A more useful form, for example and based on this principle - in this case, based upon the votes posted as I currently see them, one can conclude:
Total MN6 owners reporting: 61
Oil Consumption, MN6 owners - less than 1Qt/2000: 45/61 = 74%
Oil Consumption, MN6 owners - 1Qt/500 to 2000 miles: 15/61 or 25%
Oil Consumption, MN6 owners - more than 1Qt/500: 1/61 or 1%
Total A4 owners reporting: 29
Oil Consumption, A4 owners - less than 1Qt/2000: 25/29 or 86%
Oil Consumption, A4 owners - 1Qt/500 to 2000 miles: 4/29 or 14%
Oil Consumption, A4 owners - more than 1Qt/500: 0/29 or 0%
"A4 owners are likely to expereince lower oil consumption than MN6 owners".

At this moment of the survey , by my definition (which I qualified) 76% have little to no oil consumption, 20% have, at least, moderate oil consumption, and 1% have severe oil consumption. The separation of MN6 vs A4 was just to see if the conjecture that MN6s were bigger offenders would hold up with this sample group.
