I was at the Woodward Dream Cruise yesterday and using my clutch alot throughout the day. The Cruise was packed bumper to bumper for miles on end, after an hour and a half of excessive use of my clutch I heard a sound and it seemed as if my clutch pedal may have gotten harder to push.
Today while I was cleaning my car, I noticed a spring on the floor below the clutch pedal. I was just wondering what this is, and if it should be fixed immediately.
I was also wondering if anybody knows how much this part should cost me and how hard to install?
The broken spring is the clutch assist spring. It makes the clutch easier to depress and often causes problems with the clutch returning properly. Look up under the dash at the clutch mounting bracket and you will see the remainder of the spring. Use a pliers or screwdriver and remove the other half of the spring and forget it. You don't need it and by a lot of peoples experience you don't want it.
Removed my spring. Much better clutch action. No problem with pedal sticking or returning. 2007 Z51.
Some CF members replacing spring with a C5 spring.
