I have gotten this code every once in a while since I bought this car used. I seem to be getting it a little more often now and it's getting annoying.
The previous owner said that he was getting a code once in a while relating to the Supermaxx headers he had installed (with cats and X-pipe, stock cat-back).
I did a search--I didn't find anything on this particular code with headers--but I did see some stuff talking about AIR and that a PCM reprogram was needed in that case as AIR was no longer on the car.
What do I have to do to make this code stop cropping up?
Forgot to add my car is an '02 Z if that really matters.
OK, so 1416 (and 1415) relate to the air injection.
The air injection only runs when the car is cold to reduce emissions.
Stock, the air pump in the driver's-side nose area of the car puts
air into the exhaust manifolds while the car is cold. The computer
can see the results of the air injection, and throws one of the two
codes 1415 and 1416 to tell you that one side or the other isn't
working.
If your headers are CARB legal, then the tubes for the air injection
may be there, and the system may be functional. If there are no
air injection points, it may be that the whole system was removed,
and then it would be best to have it flashed out of the computer.
If the system is present and functioning, then it means that one
of the two valves that prevents exhaust gas from going back into
the air injection tubing may have gotten clogged. This is fairly
common. Some folks have had good luck removing the rubber
tube and soaking the valve with Liquid Wrench or WD-40.
When I had this problem, I replaced mine as a set, which is easy for
the driver's side, but a royal pain for the passenger side, since
the valve is behind the motor.
So, if you let us know what the state of your air injection system
is, we can probably point you in the right direction.
By the way, it is pretty easy to tell if you have the AIR system. It connects to the headers right near the cylinder head. Both sides are in the middle of the head and right on top of the headers. If you have any connections to the headers plainly visible (ok under the plastic fuel rail covers) then you have an AIR system. Look at LS1HOWTO.com they have a head swap write up that has photos if you want to reference it.

I probably have the AIR system because I have never gotten code 1415ever, only 1416. If you delete it you delete the whole thing not half.
Is 1416 the passenger side (the hard-to-get-to side?). I don't get this code very often; when I first purchased the car it took 4 months to show up.
Well I have been getting this 1416 code since I bought my car three months ago. I finally have broken down and bought a new valve. 43.00 CDN. They dealership is installing it as I write this. The labor rate book is 2.5 hours as they need to remove the intake manifold to get at it. I will keep you posted as to whether or not this solves the problem.
I got the code for the tough side(right). I sprayed some "throttle body cleaner" into the system (upstream of from the right check valve)and a little low pressure compressed air. Hasen't reoccured in almost a year.
I have the same code showing up once in a few months. I just delete it, using the Reset button and the on board diagnostic feature. I could flash it out of the PCM by using HPTuners, but as long as it doesnt show up every start up i will just live with the 1416.
In case i should ever remove the Intake, i will replace that valve. If not and the codes appear more often, i will just flash it out of the PCM...
