Default A/C Problem - temps different

My compressor went out, and I got it replaced. It seems to be working fine, with freon pressures in the correct range. Of course, a new problem had to pop up. I am getting slightly cool air on the drivers side, and much colder air on the passenger's side.

I did some searches, and saw a mention of pulling fuse 27, so I pulled it, started the car, the HVAC did nothing. I shut down, put the fuse back in, started back up and no help. I also pulled the battery and tray, to look for vacuum lines, as I saw mention of that. I didn't see any vacuum lines under the battery, or in the pax foot well by the fuse block. I was surprised to see mention of vacuum, I assumed by now they would have moved past it. At any rate, I might just not know what they look like, I am thinking back to the lines from my older cars.

Any thoughts, suggestions or experience?

Thanks

Kevin

Cold air on passenger side and warmer air on drivers side is usually an indication that you need a little more freon -

Do you know what pressure I should be seeing when I hook up a guage?

There are two fuses in the passenger footwell fuse box, you might try it again and pull both of them. Wait ~5 min and put them back in and start the car. I forget the exact number, but it says on the box top. If that doesn't work, then def add more freon. (sorry don't know the exact pressure)

I agree with ronwc, it sounds like you have a low charge. Since the problem just popped up, you probably have a small refrigerant leak. Take it back to the shop that replaced your compressor and have them check for leaks. (They should have checked for leaks after they were done to make sure that everything was fixed). If it is leaking on something that they opened up, then I would say that they didn't fix it correctly. They should fix it at no cost to you.

You'll have to look in a service manual for low/high side pressures as they vary with ambient conditions. Going by pressures alone isn't the best method to determine the proper charge. When I was recharing my AC after a recent repair, I noticed that the whole last can didn't affect the pressures that much, but it made a huge difference in cooling capacity in the car.

If you want to find the leak yourself I'd add ~1/2 can of R134 w/UV dye and see if that helps the cooling. If it does, then you know you have a leak and now you just need to find it and fix it or the problem will return. (The dye will help you find the leak). You can also check out www.ackits.com. They have a great forum to aid with DIY repairs.

Most leaks occur at fittings, so hopefully it will be easy to repair (o-ring).

Good luck

I had my A/C charged after H/C install and had to add an additional pound of freon so I wouldn't have the driver side warm air/pass cold air problem.
