Fuel gauge question

On saturday when l started my 02 the gauge showed empty and the message center read "low fuel" Now l realized that l was low but l thought l had at least 4 gallons left and was going to get it fueled up.
So just to be safe l picked up a gallon and a half in a gas can and added it to the tank.
The next day l started it to take it for a fill up and the gauge now read 1/4 tank and no message. Keep in mind that the interior of my garage was very hot (weather) and very humid.
Should l be concerned or is this just one of those things, l still have the GMPP extended warranty.
Thanks
Alan
If you still have a warranty and it covers this problem, get both sending units replaced. This is a very common problem with our cars. There are two fuel tanks and when one sending unit gets sulfer or other corrosion on it and the sending units don't agree with each other, they will go into default mode, and indicate empty.
After getting new ones in (or if they do not cover it...) put Techron in your tank every couple of 1,000 miles and use nothing but Chevron or Texaco gas as both have techron in them.
I had this problem in my 98 and I put a double dose of techron in the tank this past winter while the car was in storage and have been using nothing but Chevron gas, and so far, the problem has not reoccured.

Is it worth bringing it in and what happens if it doesn't happen when the tech looks it over or is it just my word?
Does this throw a code?
And what should tell the service advisor before he puts me off. I have the GMPP extended warranty with a $100 deduct.
What if the service advisor says to only replace one sending unit?
This is not what to say but how to say it. Should l tell him that l'm aware of the bulletins?
Thanks
Alan

Being that l don't have a mar on my car as of yet, so why tempt fate!
