No, cam comes out the front of the engine. Driveline remains intact.

You just have to remove everything from the front of the engine and drop the front suspension down a little bit.

The ony thing you need to drop is lowering the front cradle to make it easier to remove the steering rack. Nothing on the front suspension needs to be moved.

I thought so.I bought Will Handzel's book "How to Build High Performance LS1's" and He said it's alot easier or He recommends taking the whole drivetrian out. I thought that was insane.I couldn't believe Chevy would do such an Insane thing. They even give step by step Instructions for taking it out as a whole.

Good, I'm back wanting a C5.

Sorry, I meant the steering rack. I should know better, I have done it.

I did re visit my new book and it was that I believe they are re-building the entire engine and not just a cam swap.
My error

the ls1howto write up is PURE GOLD ;-)

Maybe the only additional item thats a minor pita is the steering coumn has to come loose and slide out of the way.

Like anything first time is a bit of a struggle then you quickly learn the ins and outs
