Everything was fine on saturday untill I went for a drive to the store. .. Then, all of a sudden, out of nowhere I lost 3rd & 4th gear ??? No warning, just wouldn't shift into either gear I have an 87' w/the 4+3 manual transmission . I noticed a few weeks ago that the slave cylinder is leaking so my 1st guess was that i might have ran outta fluid. Checked & it wasn't even low . . . The master has been recently replaced so I'm pretty sure its good. ??????

Common issue it's a broken 3/4 shift shaft, it's broken off where the shaft is welded to the rooster cone!
Just remove the side cover from the 4 speed section and you will find the front lever broken.
I posted in both c4 & c5 cause someone in the c5 might know something that someone else doesn't . & so far nobody has givin a single response in the c4 section.
I took the center console apart to see what's goin on in there & it almost goes into 3rd but gets caught up linkage ??? It also sticks now when I put it in reverse?
Forget the console, it's internal in the transmission!
Get it up in the air and remove the side cover from the gearbox and yes it'll leak 80w gear oil out when the cover is removed.
But this is where the problem is............

If you can't locate the side cover, that's because there isn't one. The older style transmissions (Muncies, Saginaws, etc) with exterior mechanical operating linkages had them. The T-56s we have use an "internal rail" shift mechanism and the transmission has to be removed and torn down to visually inspect for any gear/synchro damage, etc.

Sorry to tell you, but his is a DNE2 with external linkage and the 4 speed is a updated version of the BW super T10.
And it does have a side cover, trust me on this!
