I have a 97 c5. It has 77000 miles and has been properly maintained. Last year about 4000 miles ago the fuel filter began leaking at the connection going towards the front of the car. No problem, one fuel filter in 70,000 miles. So I replaced it. Hardest part of the job was getting to it. You have to unbolt the left muffler. So the other day I drive the car, coming back from Carlisle, and I smell gas. I check the filter and its leaking at the same connection. So this filter only lasted a year. Anyone else have this problem, is the connector bad or what. I know GM had problems with oil pressure sesors, is there a fuel filter problem? Any thoughts. Thanks!

My 98 leaked live a sieve at about 70K. DID YOU REPLACE BOTH PLASTIC RETAINERS. IF NOT THAT MAY BE YOUR PROBLEM. I had to use a small screwdriver to get the front one off. Rear one came off with just fingers pinching the ends in and pulling. If you DIDN'T replace BOTH the plastic locking clips DO IT NOW. If you don't have them they are available as a seperate part form NAPA and other auto parts stores.
The SM also says to put a light coat of oil like a few drops on the filter O-rings before assembling or they might leak. also if not FULLY SEATED they WILL LEAK. Remember about 70-80# of pressure on this line. BIGHANK
Leaky filter is yet another common problem for 97 and 98 vettes. When i removed my old filter, i noticed that the old orings from the old filter where actually still attachedc to the fuel line. You need to make sure the line had no debris left over from the old filter, the new filter fits and was installed properly, and make sure you use new quick connects on the new filter...if this doesnt work, you may have to try and replace the filter again. Luckily the part is cheap...
