I am repairing a damaged torque tube in my 01 z06, in the process the front input shaft was replaced. Should I or can I balance the drive shaft before reinstalling the unit?
I just noticed that I have some runout on my TT . That must have been what was causing the vibration I've been feeling.
It might be more cost effective to replace just the input shaft but if there isn't much difference in price I'll bite the bullet and get a whole new TT.
I got real lucky and found a guy with a damaged torque tube. I should be able to put together a very nice tube using parts from both. I'm just skeptical about putting it all back together without balancing the whole mess.
I know what you are saying about the $$ of the input shaft new, seems like it was around 300 new.
I tried to get mine ballanced..first shop looked at it and said no way- after they said on the phone they could... 2nd shop tried for an hour and then said -no way...
Ended up rigging up jig to ck runout got it zeroed as best I could and ran it... worked perfect! I also installed alluminum rear bushing and new front rubber bushing...which btw you have to get from BMW..Yep..
Got pics of the jig somewhere..
