Engine immediately turned off.
Hi, Everyone!
Last night I started my vette and it immediately turned off. Not stalled out, but turned off. I have never had this happen and was wondering if the fact that it was an unusually hot day here and I had put about 50 miles on my vette had anything to do with this. Definitely seems to have been an electrical glitch, but don't know for sure. I restarted it and everything was fine, but thought I'd check with you guys, since you all know so much more than I do.
Thanks in advance.
RJ
p.s. Hey, what's with these ads that have shown up on my thread?? : (
If your ignition is fully on and you turn it off and then start the engine in less than 10 seconds it will shut off and you will get a message on your DIC that says something like "wait 10 seconds". After the 10 second wait it will start and run. It's related to the recycle time for computers.

the "wait 10 seconds" has to do with the Vats system not able to read the security pellet in the key; or the detection that the column lock motor didn't fully pull away from the lock plate.
My 2002 A4 does not have the column lock mechanism... I can put the key in and start instantly without issue.

Thanks for this interesting explanation; unfortunately, I did not turn off my engine, it immediately turned off on its own.
Any ideas what it means when it says "1 Code"? I plan on checking out my manual when I get a moment.

Thanks again for your input.
Sounds like you're referrring to the Manual Diagostics readout. If you allow the DIC to automatically cycle through, it will display the actual codes themselves (which is a heck of a lot more useful than simply knowing there is "1 code")! Each code will be displayed for 3 seconds so you may need to repeat the process a couple of times in order to read (and write down) the codes.

Yes, obviously, Bill is extremely knowledgeable and very generous to share his time and expertise. I will probably take my vette to the dealership, because I believe this is covered by the GMPP.
My thanks to you, too, for taking the time to read my thread.
