I am having a problem removing the rear rotor on my 04. It has 24,000 miiles and I want to paint the rotors. I can only get the rotor to come out about 1/2". The e-brake is off. It then wants to spring back in to the hub. Any ideas?
Caliper and bracket is off. I have tapped the rotor and I can get it to come out but it won't release from the e-brake or at least thats what I think it is.
If it comes out 1/2 inch and then "springs back", your rotor is most likely hung on the e-brake pads. Rotor has a slight groove worn on its inside and the pads are hanging on that. Don't know of any good way to resolve this. Maybe someone else can chime in.

There are two 15 mm bolts on the back side of backing plate the hold the shoe assembly in place and the parking cable brake.
I just went through the same thing. Keep working at them with the aid of a large screwdriver. I was able to get one side off by prying down on the back of the E brake shoe and it popped off. The other side took the shoe off with the rotor. I had to fiddle with the E brake spring for a 1/2 hr trying to get it back in place before putting on the new rotors. PIA but not to bad.
make sure as you start getting the rear rotor to move that you keep it as square a possible, that helps it get by the parking brake shoes.
While it is off. adjust the parking brakes so they just fit ( rotating the brass colored star wheel) that way your parking brakes will catch and hold with the lever at a 45 degree angle
