Default fuel pump wiring question

Simple question, to confirm that I have the correct voltage reaching my fuel pump at the input into the tank how do I know which cables correspond to the fuel pump? There are several cables there including the ones that go to the fuel level meter. I am planning to measure the voltage with a volt meter by slighty tapping into the cables.

I can doublecheck my service manual to find out which wire your looking for but on my car there are only 4 wires, one of which is ground.

The ground wire can be found by checking continuity between the grounded terminal right there in the left rear wheel well and the connector at the fuel pump and you can eliminate the other wires one at a time, when you turn the key to the "run" position you should get 12 volts momentarily on one of the other wires.

You can also try to eliminate 2 of the other wires in your connector because they will read continuity across the 2 showing the value of the level of fluid in the tank.

Yeah I have tried that before and its not as easy as it sounds. The fuel level meter also gets 12 volts and it gives out less though the other wire, according to the level in the fuel tank. I will give it a try, but keep me posted if you get the cable color or a diagram in the manual.

thanks

Fuel pump wires are GREY (hot) and BLACK (ground) ... The Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor is wired with a GREY/BLACK, a DARK GREEN, and a GREY. That's from my 2001 Service Manual ... that what you need ?

To make it clearer (like mud) the Fuel Pump in the Left tank includes the Sender assembly .... In the Instrument Panel wriring diagram it shows the Low Reference signal on the GREY wire to the Pump/Sender and a DARK BLUE wire as the Sender Output. The Right Sensor gets a GREY low reference and LIGHT BLUE is the sender output. Obviously the BLACK wires are the grounds.

OK ... I think I got it now ....

Should be TWO GREY wires to the LEFT pump ... one is a 12V power feed to the pump ... (Circuit 120) powered by Fuse 13 (20 Amp) in the Underhood fuse block. the other is a ground (low reference) back to the IPC for the fuel level sensor (Circuit 720). The BLACK is the ground for the fuel pump. The DARK BLUE is the data line (variable voltage) back to the PCM for the fuel level sensor (Curcuit 1936).

That better ??
