I seem to have warped my front brake rotors. I would appreciate any suggestions for a good set of inexpensive, heavier-than oem, front brake rotors. I will check this post when I get home from work this afternoon, since I only have access to the intranet at work. :( Thanks in advance for any insight. :flag
Depends how much you want to spend, and how you use your car.Godspeed is showing the Baer eradispeeds. These are very cool looking and can handle mild-to-moderate racing abuse. If you are mainly a street car, Baer also sells some less expensive slotted/drilled rotors. If you need the ultimate, check out Dilusi. They make some awesome brakes for the C5.
Yes, you can machine them, but then they are just that much thinner and even more prone to warping. Most of us who experienced warped rotors went the aftermarket route.
I talked to the vette mechanic at my dealer and he told me machining them would solve my problem. I am going to get them turned for now and buy new ones if they warp again. Thanks for all the imput though. I was just trying to find the least costly fix for the time being.
I just did mine last weekend & put new pads on while I had it apart....VERY simple to do a brake job on these....$16 to have the rotors turned, & $68 for the pads.
We will see how long before they warp again, if to soon....after markets!
Well, here's an update to my front rotor saga. I took the rotors off this evening and took them to the Firestone place to get them turned. It seems my rotors are worn too much to be turned. If they were turned, they would be past the discard point. I ended up ordering a set of KVR cross-drilled brake rotors with the cadmium coating. I spoke with the service guy for KVR and I think I will be really pleased with these rotors.
West Coast Corvette, I appreciate the offer, but I didn't plan to spend quite that much cash.
Thanks to all who have responded. I will get some pics of the new rotors when I put them on.
