Default Gauge illumination problems

Gauges won't light up. Dimmer works and is turned up. Every thing else works and lites fine. What controls the blacklight illumination for the gauges? Is the metal enclosure in the back of the cluster the culprit? How do I test it? Thanks, Steve

If the metal box is the problem...what is it called and what is the part #? Thanks again, Steve

There is a high voltage power supply hanging on the rear of the cluster that provides the power to run two high voltage lights/tubes on the sides of the cluster. I don't know what the part number is, but when I last looked, it wasn't available from GM as a seperate item...you had to buy the whole cluster.

Do you know what fuse to check that runs this part of the cluster?

Sorry, I don't know if there is a fuse for that high voltage power supply or not. With a meter and a HV probe, the output can probably be tested providing its connected to the car which would be a problem. Another thought is if the speedo repair places can do it for you. You need a schematic to locate the power source for that HV power supply. Its probably internal to the cluster. Check for any and all blown fuses...check them all.

Has anyone heard of the inverter failing? Are the black light bulbs replaceable?
Thanks
