I've been stumped on this all morning, and was hoping someone could help me out... well I guess I'll start with some background. I have a '99A4, and have been putting off buying a set of new tires for awhile (dealer told me I only have a few hundred miles left in them about 3k miles and a few burnouts ago, ha!, I guess I showed him :D) . They are *almost* slick on the outsides, but on the middle and inside it looks like it has a bit of tread left, so I'm thinking I can go another two weeks or so on these tires, and buy that SLP exaust system right away! :D
Has anyone else taken any small risks for a mod, and should I get tires or the SLPs? Let me know what you would do! :smash:
If they are bad enough that you're giving it this much thought, get some new tires first. That SLP exhaust won't do much good when the 'vettes in the wrecking yard! :smash:
I wore my stock runflat tires down until there was no sign of tread at all. You will probably be ok for a few weeks anyway. Just be careful in the rain :D
OK, OK, I'll get the tires! :p: But I'm getting the exaust next paycheck, so I guess I can wait a little while ... its good to know I'm not the only one pushing the limits of the runflats! :jester
I've pushed tires to the limit like this a couple of times due to being busy. It got to the point where the car started to slide around like a greased eel in the rain. THAT was scary. I'll never do it again- it's just not worth it.
Here is a scarry thought...tread seperation on a baddly worn run flat tire. Dealer (keep that in perspective) told me he saw a C5 with the entire rear fender ripped off when a run flat seperated and the steel casing came a apart.
BTW: a worn tire on the outsides and not in the middle indicates under-inflation. you might consider checking the psi on the new sets for even wear.
I just ordered a cam kit from MTI and my runflats are slicks across the back.
Same here  I know, it's not the best decision......Just start acting like those Supra guys, only race from a roll - 45MPH at least
