Default FOB Problems - Won't Work

I have a 99 FRC with the passive lock system. I have had no problems with using the FOB or FOB until now. The only big change I made to the car (with my brother's help) was to install an after-market stereo head unit and upgrade all the speakers except for the sub-woofers. Awesome upgrade!!

Now the keyless entry and trunk release won't work off the FOBs. Also, when I try to use the FOB learn procedure the FOB Training message on the DIC won't come up. All I get is the Tire Pressure Sensor (TPS) message.

Any body have any ideas as to what could be wrong and how to fix?

Thanks.

Did you try changing the battery in the FOB? My friend had a similar issue in his C5. Changing the battery didn't work for him either, but nothing came up on it. His FOB was just dead. It is not uncommon to need a new FOB since yours is a 99. Mine is on it's way out as well... I can only unlock my doors/hatch if I'm standing next to the drivers door.

^^Thanks for advice. One of the FOBs is brand new, so I assume the battery is good. Neither FOB will work. Also, to keep it simple I did not mention that the other FOB worked once just the other day to unlock the doors, but after that stopped working. So, I don't think it is a battery issue but thanks for replying.

The stealership has a device that can test the keyfobs for you. After you train the fob, sometimes you have to hold both buttons down on the fob for about 15 seconds to "retrain" it again. You shouldn't have to, but I did.

Also, check the battery on your car.

I have a 2003 vert with the same problem "no training option on the DIC ...when I hit the reset it just sits there" I will chirp in if I can resolve the issue!

Doesn't anybody have some other ideas as to what the problem may be?

I can't be the only one who has experienced this problem!!

Thanks

This may be a long shot but did you disconnect your battery when you changed out your radio? I would try this disconnect your car battery for one half hour then reconnect it. Check for codes before disconnecting battery you never know this just might reset what ever is not responding in the BCM.

Looks like the RFA module is no longer working.
Had same problem on my '99 some time ago. In addition I could not enter the tire training routine (TPS programming.
Problem was bad ground connection in the left rear wheel well.
Pls read out the error codes from the DIC and post again. Likely you find a code referring to the RFA module no able to communicate to the IPC.

Hope this helps

Roger

^^ I will double check the DIC codes tonight. The only code I was getting was about the radio and no communication because I went to after-market head unit.

I do get the TPS training message. Just don't get the FOB Training message.

Is it possible that the remote access receiver is not working? Car is over 8 years old after all. Anyone know how to check this out?

Thanks

I checked the DIC last night. No codes. Only get the following message.

80 - Radio no comm.

Makes sense since I went to after-market head unit.

Bought a new battery for FOB transmitter. Will install tonight and see what happens. Batteries are supposed to be good for about 18 months, but maybe I just got a bad battery.

Will post results after I test out.

^^ Put new battery into FOB. Still no workie.

Looks like it's time to explore other areas. If I ever figure it out will post up. I think it is a loose ground or other wiring issue.

i have the same problem. Fob works only now and then... Changed batterie - still the same. So you guys think it might be a bad ground somewhere in the right wheel well... Guess i have to check that too...

Default Grounds????????

[QUOTE= Turns out to be a rear ground (stickies) car was coated with Lizard Skin and all the grounds were tended to. QUOTE]

Can you tell us exactly where the "ground" wire is? Does the car have to be on a hoist or can you see it by looking under the car?

TIA

Did you try standing near the car and holding the lock and unlock buttons down simultaneously for a few seconds till the horn beeps? That's what I do when my fob stops working and it comes right back.
