Default Rebuilt tranny or Convertor??

Took the car for a ride today. As always, I watched all temps very closely. (I have been told I do this to a fault)I was driving around for about 30 minutes. Tranny was running about 160. Left the car in overdrive and went up a steep hill. ....

You could feel what "felt like" the convertor starting to hook up and then let go.. While keeping a constant gas peddle, I tapped the brake.

Rpms jumped way up to 4000 rpm (felt like the tranny was slipping)and in less than (what seemed like) a minute or so, tranny temps went up to 196 before I reached the top of the hill.

Once the convertor locked back up, the tranny temps leveled off and started back down.

How can I tell if its the convertor, a Yank SY3500 or the tranny which was just rebuilt??

What sucks is I SELDOM hammer the car. My buddy beats the hell out of his and it runs like a top..

Thanks in advance.

It sounds to me like your tranny did a normal down shift and yes the tranny temp will rise in the lower gear especially on a hill. Considering the stall you are using the tranny temps are normal. The higher stall speed will generate more heat under load. You could also have a tuner readjust your shift points.

Frank,

What I failed to mention in the first post was the following issue that has been ongoing..

When I drive down the road at a constant speed (55, 65, 75 ect), the car will change rpms (increase 300-500) and then drop back to normal. The speed remains the same but the car seems to just "downshift" by itself.

This happens even when the car is in cruise and no additional throttle is added..

Hmmmmm
