My car has recently developed a powersteering leak. I have located the leak to the backside of the steering box where the shaft is inputed. Is this an involved or pricey operation? Or would someone with similar experience tell of a fix. Thanks.
I need to ask questions here within this thread too...My very high mileage '99 Coupe, the rack and pinion is becoming loose. With the engine off, rocking the steering wheel back and forth, I can hear clicking/clunking sounds from the steering unit. I've already been under it and with someone else rocking the steering wheel, determined that it is not the tie rod ends or anything else. The noise is coming from the rack and pinion. I found a place that rebuilds them or I can buy a new one. Thoughts? Also, any thoughts on the special tool needed to get the tie rod ends off or will something else work just as well without messing things up? Any additional problems getting the unit out of there?
anyone know of a good CF vendor to buy what i need? Seal at input from steering column is leaking quite badly. Do i need to fully replace rack?or can i repair?
There's been a lot of discussion about putting the new and improved 08 steering rack in a C5. The consensus is that it will bolt in and is a better rack, but you may not get the full benefit without 08 programming. The 08 sounds like it will costabout $140 more than a new C5 rack. Anbody interested? Talk to Gene - maybe he'll give you a deal.
