i am looking for any information on how i can pick up some quick and reasonably inexpensive horsepower for my 04 coupe. i have an air intake, and exhaust. i have not ran an x-pipe yet. will very soon. looking for something in the 1k range. any info would be greatly appreciated.
Headers and cam are the two mods that gain the most horsepower and torque. The other 'bolt-ons' are supportive in making more power but will not yiled the same gains as headers and a cam. In order to pick a cam you would have to decide your end goals for the car and even if you would like to install a cam. If you want to stay with the stock heads and cam for now then the best bang for the buck is a good set of headers w/ an X-pipe. I recommend the LG Pro LongTubes or the Kooks 1-3/4" LT's. These headers are going to run over $1000 but will give you the most power and torque versus the 'other' cheaper bolt-on's. If you don't want to spend that much then you could always do a ported throttle body, highflow airbridge, Underdrive pulley, 160* Thermostat, upgrade to a FAST 90mm intake or just get a tune. Hope this helps you out and Good luck!
Sticking with your $1k limit a custom dyno tune is really your only option here. No mechanical changes to the vehicle, moderate horsepower/torque increase, turn the fans on earlier to help cool the vehicle, and various other little tweaks which you'll definitely notice...
Wouldn't a street tune be more cost effective in his case? Unless he had cam/headwork done, a street tune would give results close to those of a dyno tune at a much lower cost. Just a thought.

That is not true in the least. You could get headers (got my Kooks/w HF cats/xpipe for $600 shipped), air box zip tie or flip mod (K&N filter $39) and $350 for my dyno tune. Viola 40-45 HP/ 25-30 TQ.

for a decent gain, buy some used long tubes and a tune. if you can work on yoru own car, do a cam, they are only 350 bucks
By the time you pay for push rods, cam, springs, oil pump, UD pulley, gaskets and seals you are at $1000. Can is great but you will not have money for a tune at under $1k

my cam was 350, and cam with rods. i used the factory pulley, and seals where like 30 bucks. pump was 230. tune was 400. it can be close enough.
<-- Big fan of cheap horsepower, as long as you dont mind doing a bit of damage to your motor.
Personaly, doing a full exhaust, headears, Corsa cat back, cold air, and a 125 wet ZEX shot.
Yes, its more than a grand, but the wet shot its self is only 700 and easy to install.
BTW, a new cam tailored to nitrous is about 250-300, can give you an extra 50 HP, so in theory a cam (comp cam for nitrous) and 125 wet shot should yeild 175 on a stock motor.
Also, the cam does yeild a HP gain without nitrous.
Good luck keeping it together long!

I never did springs cuz i did heads the same time
so you think a cam with no headers or any other mods will get you good HP? I would bet that you would get almost as much out of headers/off road xpipe than you would with cam only with no bolt ons plus why would you sacrifice that 8-10 HP that the UD pulley could give you while you have everyting disasembled?
I am not saying you are wrong.........to each thier own. I am simply saying that the optimal way to do this mod thing is to do your supporting mods (bolt ons) and then go internal engine. Also spring will cost you another $250.
Also most people can do an air intake, headers and intake manifold themselves but many cant do heads and cam by themselves so you can count another $1000-1500 for labor.
Cajun
flip tie mod.. Do a search.. 12rwhp gain at a minimal cost and effort.. This bacically eliminates your stock air box.. Replace stock air filter with K&N filter and gives cold air induction.. for the cost of a K&N air filter and about an hour of easy labor.. Do a search to find a "how to do it yourself" You can thank me later.. Send a PM for info on where to send the beer (my address)
