C5 A4 and ¼ mile Techniques
In a recent post, someone suggested to run the ¼ mile with the car in 3rd gear NOT in Drive . Can someone explain the reason/reasons for this?
I am absolutely sure that in 150+ ¼ mile runs, my car never changed to 4th gear.

I leave it in Drive (third) every time I drag! Save the 4th gear for the highway! :D

Leave it in 3 and save your Brakes. In 4, at the end of the 1/4 when you let off, it will upshift and you will pretty much be Coasting. OD doesn't have much engine braking.

Hmmmmm...I've always dragged in 4. Maybe there's a tenth or two better in there?

No advantage in 4th vs 3rd.
Now running in Comp mode vs TC/AH off is another matter.

There is an advantage. EVERY run done in 3rd vs 4th I picked up at least 1 mph. Went from 102-104 to 104-106.
