Default Oil, coolant. Change.

Oil, coolant. Change.

I’m gone store the car for winter, so I want to change the oil and coolant myself I’m 22 never change oil but I did the coolant an a old ford . I did some research on this wonderful forum but still I would like someone to walk me thru the entire process if you could.

And I have some other question to

Should I stick with Mobile one for oil or go with royal purple?

What kind of oil filter?

What coolant is the best? again Royal purple?

Should I change the thermostat to 160??? If I want to the engine to be cooler. All this not really change any think, if yes what the best one to get brand wise.

I heard that there is a kit that utilizes your garden hose to wash the old cooling fluid out of the engine any info on that?

How long do I run the engine after the change before I can store it??

I know that’s a lot of question and some of them were already discussed ant this or other site, I have done plenty off research I just one to make sure I have the right facts.

I know that the great car people will not mined to discussed this one more time

THANK YOU

Car:

1997 Coupe, A4, 90k miles owned for 4 moths.

A 160 deg thermostat is almost useless unless you get the computer reprogrammed to activate the fans at a lower temp. Save your money, and wait to find out what your Vette needs before buying stuff you may not need.

I don't know about the coolant, I would just leave it in myself. As long as its dexicool it shouldn't be an issue. Never heard of any kit for the C5, just open the stopcock or take a hose off. I'd look at getting a flush next spring given the age and milage.

Mobil One is good, but so is RP. Me, I use Mobil One. Any filter would do for storage... But a good one is the pureone. And DO NOT use any additives in the oil!

I'd be more concerned with the gas, use a high grade and maybe think about putting a fuel stablizer in it if its going to sit for a long time. Some thing that will help keep the gas from guming up and to help with moisture.

Also, get a battery tender, which is a small charger that will keep the batter charged. The battery will die if left dormant for a while, there is a small drain on the battery all the time.
