It's free if you do it yourself. If you are halfway mechanically inclined, it's not bad; just time-consuming. Check out ls1howto.com's instructions and see what you think. I did a head/cam install with their instructions, and it all worked out great.

now im thinking about doing heads to what are good heads to get but i dont want to spend a lot of money on heads

If you pay someone to do it (cam, retainer, springs, rods, etc.) you are looking at $1500 for the install and another $500 for a tune. ROUGH ESTIMATE

The cheapest out there are Stage 1 LS6 heads from Patriot Performance or Texas Speed, or some other shop. I went with Stage 2.5 5.3L heads from Texas Speed. They were a couple hundred more than the heads I mentioned above, which were around $1,000.
