Manual-to-auto and vice versa have been done many times. I swapped from auto-to-manual back in July because the car is no longer a daily driver, and I think it's fun to do a little spirited shifting every now and then. Cost is variable. In my case, a tuner in Florida had the drive train from an '04 ZO6 for sale -- everything from the pedals to the differential. Rodney at RPM Transmissions happened to be looking for a complete automatic setup for a drag car he's building. Rodney offered to do the labor for free and just keep my old parts.

I imagine most of these swaps happen when two parties want each other's parts and do an even trade, or at least when someone is going to do the labor themselves. I think buying new parts and paying a shop to do the swap would be very expensive.

It can be done, the actual work is not a big deal in my opinion to swap out the tranny, and just switch out the center consoul to that of a A4. My father and I did one on a Camaro several years ago.

I think your diggest obsticle will be the computer which you would more then likely have to replace...unless you or someone you know is a programmer...

Fortunatly, the swapout we did was on a 69 camaro so there was no major computer issues like you would have with a new car.

My brother went from an automatic to a manual in his 01 coupe.

The mechanical part is fairly straight-forward. The tough part is all the electronics. It's not simple, and unless you are a pretty accomplished DIYer it is best left to the pros.

You can keep your PCM it just needs to be re-programmed.

The best place to go if you decide to do it is RPM. They have a proven track record.

I think it would be easier to convert the body style of an automatic coupe to a FRC body style.

No computers to mess around with.

If you have an frc just sell it and buy an automatic coupe. Then just convert the body style if you really gotta have one.

JMO and I bet a lot less expensive.

I would. Not a road course guy, more of straight-line racing guy. For the strip or the street, once you get silly power the stalled auto is king.

I always loved the z06/FRC body, but no autos so I went with a coupe.

For the strip I would prefer an auto, but on the street 6 speed is king no ifs and or buts about it.

Im considering switching to auto myself, my goals are all on the track!

Contact RPM Transmissions, a forum sponsor, they do the swaps. They have even paired up guys who what swaps so they exchange the necessary parts. I could be up for that one of these days, but have a lot of other work to do right now.

Its not that bad price wise.

Drivetrain breakage is common on high HP C5's with 6spds. I LOVE the 6spd in my Gallardo but wouldn't have anything except for an auto in my TT FRC. BTW I have several set-ups avaliable going either way A4 to M6 or viseversa, call us if you are interested. I even recently converted a new C6 Z06 over to an A6 (paddle shift)
