For the last three week may car has been in my garage, with a high temp reading. I started a post about two weeks ago, but had no luck with the few suggestions. My problem is my temp goes all the way to high and reads xxx on the dic. The car is not running hot. The temp will show 79 degrees and then just jump up. I have replaced my temp sensor twice, I have checked ever fuse, I have taken the intake back off and reinstalled it(I had it off about 500miles before the problem to install headers), I replace the ECM. I need someones help or a good mech in the DC/VA/MD area. Please can someone help me

Maybe the gage is the culprit. What, if any codes are stored in the DIC, especially under the IPC

post a link to your last thread so i can see what others suggested.

What does the DIC temp reading indicate?

Dic reads 79 to 89 for about 5seconds then say xxx, I have reset codes which are p0118. And the other suggestions was, to clear codes, new temp sensor, new ecm, unhook battery and let set for 24hours. P0118 has something to due with temp sensor high voltage.

P0118= engine coolant temp sensor high voltage.
Have you checked the connector, or replaced the sensor?

Since you had intake off, did you burp your cooling system to make sure there in no air bubbles in it.

Also check all of your wiring harnesses for freying or possible knicks that could cause short.

Default Maybe wires instead of sensor

First thing I would do is get a multi meter, unplug the connector at the ECT and check each connector/wire. I believe the yellow wire should have 5v the brown should have nothing. It does sound like you have a short. fun part is finding it.
Hopefully you are not damaging the sensor when install.

Are you referring to the gage on IPC?

new sensor, coolant is fine, all wires ok.
If your 100% sure of the above and you said you replaced ECM (was that a typo for PCM?)You replaced all parts that the book calls for under P0118.
If the PCM detects an excessively high ECT signal, voltage, which is low temperature indication DTC P0118 sets(manual)
Call me an idiot, but the way you are explain you still have short or bad connector somewhere most likely at the PCM. Well hopefully Bill Curlee will post back

Yes I meant PCM, and I believe it is a short somewhere but where.

The wires may have melted/shorted from the heat given off by the headers. They are right in front of the #1 exhaust header pipe.

Never hurts to double check the ECT sensor Connector, and engine harness. Could have gotten pinched behind the alternator.

You dod not mention what year the car is but if the battery has leaked acid it can seep into the main wiring harness and cause weird wiring issues.

Also try a OBD-II scanner and cross check what the PCM directly says versus the gauge to determine if something is wrong with IPC.
Does the DIC and water temp gauge agree in temp value ?

There is a main ground off the left back side of engine to frame, if that ground is flaky can cause weird IPC problems

Measure the wires on sensors could be a weak ground wire
