Corvette Challenge Series Texas ** Any Thoughts ??? **
Hello
I was thinking about a race where there was bracket racing and heads up racing. I was thinking about a race that takes place at three different tracks throughout the state of Texas. I was thinking about a Corvette only Drag Race Series that takes place in Houston, San Antonio and Dallas.
This is a thought that I have, if there is any Corvette clubs in Houston or San Antonio that would like to help me bring this thought to reality please let me know.
The are a lot of Corvette races in this state. I would love to see a race series just for them. Each club puts on their own race in their own city. All three races have the same classes and same rules. Winners are awarded at each race and then a Champion for the winner of the points.
Once again this is just a thought. What do you guys think.

There is one. I cannot find the link now but I remember seeing a page for a corvette challenge west at the beginning of the summer. I am sure someone will post from that area.

I too have been envious of the guys in NJ. I feel that a state the size of ours could pull something like this off. Although our club is in Dallas and unless clubs in the other cities agree to do something like this. We will look into have the three races in Dallas then. It is really difficult to organize an event like this in your own city, much less trying to do it somewhere else. So I calling on other clubs in Texas to help with this. Please speak up now.

Darren, Don't be envious, JUST DO IT.
Dennis and I just picked up running this series at E-town last year. The year before Brian Miller started running this race on Friday nights with as little as 4 cars and it has grown from there. We don't have any clubs involved in the running of our event. However we do have members of different clubs that participate. Clubs here in this area are to busy waxing, and planning where to go eat. Were racers.
Chech out ore web site and please feel free to e-mail anytime if you have a question. You could learn from all our mistakes and be prepaired for alot of hard work.

rfgoss1 and Vicious, I take your envious comment as the ultimate compliment.
Thank you.
We do put a lot of work into it and it takes many many organizers. We have two guys that deal with the track and sponsors. We have me who maintains the web page. We have the participants who go out of their way to tell and invite others to our challenge. We also have the Corvette Forum, which is your starting point. Many of the racers in NJ met on the Forum first.
Good luck.
Any help I can provide, drop a line.
Like I said before, I cannot find the link but I know for SURE someone set something up out there.

I'm in!!! I agree with the let's just "do it". Schedule some dates, make the announcements, and see who shows up. I don't think it will take long for it to catch on here in Texas. My only request is that we make sure we have some date(s) when the temp's are nice and cool (well cool for Texas).
Besides, I'm getting a 383 done this winter. Can't stand being a high 12's car after going to Seguin for the Vette/Viper shootout.

The XTREME Corvette Club of Texas is more than happy to put on all three races. But they will all be held at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis. I was thinking about having one in March, first of June, and the second weekend in Sept., with a rain date in Nov. Would you guys in outside of Dallas like Houston and Austin have a problem coming up to Dallas to race in such a series.
Re: Corvette Challenge Series Texas ** Any Thoughts ??? ** (VICOUS)
Vicious, that is great news. You put the event together and people will come. We get quite a few regulars that travel well over 2 hours to come to NJ for the challenge. We have had folks 5 hours away come.
Re: Corvette Challenge Series Texas ** Any Thoughts ??? ** (VICOUS)
Sounds like a great idea, and I would most likely participate. I think you would limit participation if all three are in Ennis. I have little experience with drag racing in Houston, but it seems like it is difficult to get a track in the Houston area dedicated to a club. Is this true? Any input from JWSchmidt who has organized events in Houston?

I'm interested if the rounds are spread around, not all just at Ennis. HRP is always busy but a great facility. RCR would be the best since they aren't controlled by NHRA or IHRA rules, more participation imo.
Re: Corvette Challenge Series Texas ** Any Thoughts ??? ** (C5Cemo)
I agree I like RCR better than HRP and Ennis. Just simple because they are not IHRA or NHRA and don't have all of the rules the other tracks have. HRP is out of the question for us simple because they are very strict on the rules and are very difficult for a club to rent. Ennis is ok on the rules they talk big, but they are very inconsistent on checking people as of the guy in the black FRC at the FSVTS that was running low 11's high 10's with a roll bar and Ennis didn't say anything to him until the final round. Ennis is very easy for a club to rent, no out of pocket money, just have to have 51 cars for you pay a penalty of $250 for every 10 cars under 51. RCR is a great track but they require a lot of money up front just to reserve the date. We would have to have close to 100 just to brake even without any awards. Some of the rules are ok, remember that some of us are getting really fast and the safety stuff is there to protect us, just incase something goes wrong. Look at the past FSVTS a couple of weeks ago we had a Grand Sport doing 360's in the middle of the track. Now imagine that at 130-145 mph.
