I have a 1999, 6 speed manual with a maggie s/c.
I had a 700hp clutch installed a little while ago, and that is still fine with no slip, but my problem is this;
I have a very hard time getting reverse gear and when I think I've got it in as good as I can, it will pop out with a grinding noise All forward gears are fine to drive and never pop out ?? I'm praying that it won't need a new/reco gearbox (how much for this if so ? )
Any advice ??
I live in NE florida and would also like to know of any good engine tuners in Jacksonville/daytona area.
Thanks
I test drove an 01 ZO6 that I wanted to buy, and it did this. I took it to a Chevy dealer to have the car checked out before I bought it, and they told me they knew of a good trans shop who could repair it because the trans was going on it. They didn't know eaxactly what it was but they hinted it needed $$$$.
Yep . . . . I figured as much, I was hoping, err praying that someone would tell me that it was something else. Oh well.
Any idea on the options/cost of the tranny work for a 6 speed manual ?
Do I have to replace the whole gearbox or can just the sycro for reverse be fixed ??
Don't jump to a conclusion here. This is what" I" was told with the car I brought to the dealer. I have seen other posts on this issue, and I've seen other people respond differently. Take it to a good, reliable trans shop, and see what they say about your car. If I remember, some guys said they just held the shifter to keep it from popping out, and everything else with the tranny was OK. You say that everything else with the trans is OK, so don't get crazy yet. I am definitely NOT a trans expert, so don't take my word as an absolute truth, it's just my experience. Go to a trans expert first.
Try adjusting your shifter about a quarter inch forward...
Just pull your console and all that stuff there are 4 torx bolts... I think its like a T-40 or fifty. Just loosen those up... move it forward a bit and try it out... leave it all out for a few days to make sure it fixes the issue. then bolt it all back in.
i got a good deal on a car because it was popping out of gear and got lucky when it just needed a shifter adjustment.

The shop that installed the clutch may have screwed up the adjustment when they installed the shift control assembly. See Vol 1 page 4-29 of the shop manual.
Yes, do the shifter alignment first. This happened on mine too but the alignment didn't help. I had it taken apart only to find a bushing burned in there real bad, which in turn, took out a bunch of other things. Being it was the 3rd major faillure on mine, I had it replaced instead with a new Tremec.
Thanks Predetor, dgrant , curtbriggs and Ralphyboy.
I will definately check out my shifter alignment and see if I can adjust it properly and go from there. Hoping/praying its something as simple as that and not have to pull the gearbox out.
