Ive got clicking when tring to start engine.Would this be starter going out or silinoid.Got brand new optimum battery, charging just fine.Is there a test to do to cheak this out. Also heard could be loose connections at starter going to cheak this out today.2001,A4,Blackwing.Thanks
Battery is near dead or lower than 10.5 vdc...need to jump it, check for proper alternator output. As others said too... check the battery connections and at the starter itself. Corrosion between the actual wires and the terminal lugs themselves can lower the current going through while it will also provide a nice heat source that will burn them up. Tight, clean and proper connections are a must.

If you have a dgital volt meter, check the voltage across the battery terminals first.
IF it is lower than 12 , the battery is not getting charged....
concentrate your efforts on the charging system.
If you don't have one, jump start your car and drive to AutoZone and ask them to perform a free charging system diagnosis....
