Try disconnecting the battery tender. That was my problem.
Did the Battery Tender go bad?

I'm using the DELRAN Battery Tender. This is supposed to be one of the best on the market. Should I get something else?

I went through 2 optimas under warrantee before finally throwing the darn thing out and putting a normal interstate in - no problems since. I had originally tried the optima in my camaro and I couldn't even get through setting the valves without it needing a boost/charge. I'm a bit nervious with a normal battery over the computer from a leak standpoint, but I added one of those acid absorbing mats to be safe.
4 years out of this Optima Red Top. I might drive 500 miles per year Car usually gets the miles 1/4 mile at a time. When it's in the garage it's on a battery tender.
Can anyone tell me if this would be normal to kill a battery even with a tender on it?
Thanks
I see your problem. You don't drive it nearly enough.
Gotta agree here even though I have a red top ...Next will be exide when needed.
same here , I think they are way overrated, they look cool ,then there are the guys that talk about leaks ,as far as I know that was mostly with the OE batteries, better off goin to autozone or someplace else to get a battery for half the cost

I installed the new battery today and she fired right up.
Swapped out the slicks and skinnies for some street wheels and tires. This weekend I'll take the wife for a cruise somewhere and let my baby stretch her legs for a few miles.
Thanks to all of you for your input.
This is the new unit I put in.
Thats just not right. You have a amp draw somewhere and need to get out the ohm meter and track it down. Some stereos/amps draw enough with car off to drain battery over a few weeks.
well mine is not my amp because I always disconnect it when it sets. You know of a good writeup that tells how to check to draws?
Yes my battery tender went bad.It checked out fine when plugged in and actually charged the battery, but I believe a diode failed inside the tender allowing the battery to discharge itself over the course of a few days through the tender wires if the tender was not plugged in.I don't recall what brand of tender it was.
Maintenance Free 3 years old, still needs to be put on trickle charge if not driven for a week to 10 days. But 95% fires right up,, now the radio stations are another issue................and seat memory forget it.

Have you had to take up Autozone on their 3-year free replacement warrranty on the Duralast Gold battery?
I have had the same issues with Optimas. I keep them on trickle chargers now. Rarely get two years out of them. Had two die a few months ago. Put the red top from the vette in the DOA Jeep. Put a yellow top in the C5. Will see if it lasts longer. I put an Exide Orbital in the DOA Pantera. I am sick of DOA Optimas.
