Default head and cam labor cost?

does anyone know the ave. labor cost to do a head/cam swap? its a 2000 im in korea and my wife is takin the car in for me and i dont want to get riped off. thanks

also on just a cam/kit swap labor

With a tune most will charge about $2,000. Seems to be pretty standard.

Thats too much. I can cruise through a heads and cam install on that car and still do it in 12 hours.

Assuming they're charging you 100 per hour, thats 20 hrs labour?

Waaaaaayy too much.

...here in South Florida the going rate is about $1500 to $2,000. They are going to quote you book times, shop costs, fluids, yadda yadda and before you know it you're at that price range. Shop around and find the most reputable and reliable shop. Much like lawyers and doctors it's not always smart to go with the cheapest but the best...

We charge $1300 in labor, and $400 for the dyno tune. Misc. parts (gaskets/fluids/bolts) account for about $350, so depending on what their $2000 price includes, it might not be that far off. Of coarse that's not including cam, heads, pushrods, underdrive pulley and belt.

J&J Performance LABOR :

- Head and Camshaft install----------------------------$1961.00
- Degree Cam / Check PtV Clearence--------------------$318.00
- Wire 90 LS2 TB---------------------------------------$159.00
- Rewire TB again to try fix problem----------------------$424.00
- Install New headers bolts------------------------------$106.00
- Change and install New Lifters---------------------------$53.00
- 2 Hours of dyno plus base line and WB------------------$397.50

TOTAL LABOR at J&J TAXES INCLUDED---------------$3842.50

$1,200-$1,500 labor and $400-$500 for tuning is in line.. This is just labor cost, no parts.

Hi TheRadioFlyer,

Nothing was wrong with the wires or the TB....

The Calculated Airflow vs. TPS vs. RPM-P1514 Error Table under Engine Diagnostics was not set up (or set up too low) for my combo!!!

Instead of going to the point, the TB was presumed to be the problem...hence the extra labor on the invoice.

Completely agree. He's the best in the area. I would guess that ihs pricing would be a bit better than what people in Calfornia and New Jersey experience. Just a guess.
