I Need Help With Brake & Clutch Issues !!!
I need some advice on two issues that I have been having with my 1999 Z51 6 Speed that has 26K miles.
First, when I brake the car the front end seems to shake ever so slightly. It has been in the shop before for this and they replaced the rotors and balanced the tires under warrantly. That was about 4K miles ago. It seemed to make it better. Now it is doing it again. This is probably not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it is very unbecoming a Corvette.
Second, my 6-Speed seems to have some issues with mid to high RPM shifts from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th. There seems to be a tremendous amount of pressue that is building up in the clutch/transmission system somewhere. Thus the clutch petal seems like it is vibrating quite bad for about the first 1/4 of the way to the floor, and in the same place when I release it.
My warranty is good until May of 2002. I have an appointment scheduled the last week of this month. Any advice on how I should handle this with the dealer to better help the fix these problems?
Thank You....Save The Wave :chevy
On the shift issue. If you are not aware GM put a restrictor in the clutch slave line to prevent the clutch from hitting the drivetrain with the power from the LS1. What this does is after a couple of good launches it builds fluid up in the system and the clutch doesn't engage for a split second. This causes the clutch to slip. It also causes you to hit the gate in 2nd to 3rd shifts.
I'm not sure if that has anything to do with your problem but I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the restrictor issue.
the dealer I took mine to did an academy award winning performance of playing stupid. Finally I just had the bigger Z06 clutch put in.
