Default Running hot??

On the highway, all seems normal. If I put the AC on or it is hot outside, (over 85) all the engine temps go up. Water,. oil ect.. I spent the bucks to install an electric water pump.. No help..

The car runs good.. Just much hotter with the new motor.

What is too hot?? Way too much money invested to ruin this..

Thanks in advance..

You don't say what temperatures the engine goes up yto .... but this is from the service manual ... a description of how the PCM is programmed to control the fans based on engine coolant temperature ....

The low speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F). The high speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F). When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fan will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph).

Hope this helps,

First time I noticed it, the water went over 230, oil to almost 250! I have a 160 stat in it and the fans have been set to come on at a lower temp.

Driving around town or in traffic it is`a problem.. Highway driving will slowly drop the temps.

Here's 3 things to check ... with #2 the most likely issue ......

1) With a COLD engine make sure that the coolant reservoir level is AT LEAST to the minimum fill line. I usually keep mine at about mid-way between the HOT and COLD marks when the coolant is cold.

2) Lift front of car and look behind the front air dam. There is a large space above that has the A/C condensor showing. Check for debris against the A/C condensor. These cars are "bottom breathers" and they will pick up all kinds of garbagee against the condensor (which blocks air flow to the radiator behind it). I've found leaves, paper bags, all kinds of junk in there. Clean it out.

3) Check the area between the A/C condensor and the radiator. Often that space fills with junk too. You can take a hose and GENTLY spray water from the engine side of the radiator to help clean out the space. Be careful not to use a jet of water strong enough to bend the fine cooling fins on the radiator.
