I need help....I just got my vet about 2 weeks back (2002 convertible)...love the car...anyway, was trying my first patch of burning rubber from a standing start...and I revved it and dropped the clutch...i'm not a super expert, didn't lay any rubber this time (6spd) but I noticed afterwards, even after 2 hours after I turned it off (I turned it off about 5 mins after the "run"), the plastic motor covers still seemed REALLY hot....this was yesterday....then I drove it later that day for a few miles and they seemed to cool down fairly quickly....so tonight I take it out for a 6 mile round trip, have been parked about an hour, and the plastic covers are REALLY hot, almost too hot to touch, certainly for very long....any help on why this is...also, I THINK I smell an "electrical burning" smell, not huge, but I notice it...not sure if my "run" had anything to do with it, but any advice would be appreciated....tx folks!!
your motor gets hot,,,consider this, it has little explosions inside of the cylinders,,,like verrrrryyyyyy hot little explosions. the water temp is 190 or higher that suround the cylinders. The exhaust gets red hot right out of the ports ar night ( it does) ...so , hot covers are normal. As for the smell. dont worry till ya see smoke.
itll be fine,,,trust me. Did you slip the clutch,,,it might smell like the electrical smell

Sounds like clutch slippage, Should have left a patch, regardless of RPM being turned when you dumped clutch, that or need way more practice C-5 easiest burn out machine

Any time you shut down the engine and let it sit there for awhile with the hood closed, almost everything inside the engine compartment is going to get too hot to touch for the first 30 minutes or so.
All the hot parts of the engine will heat soak the colder stuff when it sits there in an enclosed space with no air flowing through it. Simple heat transfer physics.
Well, chalk me up as a total idiot...I FORGOT about the traction control button (hey, it's my first vette!) and that was on...i guess it works..my guess is the smell was the brakes fighting me...regarding the hot covers, i guess you're probably right wrusty....i guess it was just a little paranoia since I'm thinking "what's wrong w/me, why can't i lay a patch of rubber??"...tx folks...as always, this forum rocks!
Keep us posted on the temperature of the "plastic covers" , I wonder if it's something serious? I've never checked mine...maybe I should. Does anyone know how hot they should be? Do they heat up when you try to do burnouts?
