OK, I've had my Z for going-on 4 years now and have only just begun playing with Active Handling. :o I've been messing with Competitive Driving mode lately and noticed that in addition to turning off traction control, it also dials-back throttle sensitivity. Switching back and forth between standard and competitive modes there is a definite difference in throttle response. I really like the more linear response in competitive mode, especially when it's damp and drizzly out like it was this morning.

Just had to mention it since I really hadn't seen much about this desensitizing "feature" in past posts. Nice job on the programming, GM!

Interesting observation....I futz with the mode a few times a year at the 1/4 runs. Seems strange to me that everything "on" gets me the best times in my A4

When you are in competitive mode, traction control is turned off and AH is on but not as intrusive as normal mode.

Here is a link with more info for you.

I felt this and asked about it in the past, many people don't feel the difference and claim that there is absolutely no change in pedal feel or throttle response... I am glad that I'm not the only one that's noticed it.

Independent1, thanks for the link. Unfortunately they don't go into a great amount of detail about competitive mode other than traction control being disabled. I believe there were also later iterations of the system starting in '02 or so. Perhaps the software was tweaked to control throttle response in the later systems, thus causing folks with earlier systems not to notice any difference?

JBauch, I IMMEDIATELY noticed the difference in throttle response when I switched to competitive mode. It felt like I lost about 50 hp, until I buried my foot of course and then it was all there! Switching back to everything "on", the snappy response was back. I personally feel like I have more control over the car with AH set to competitive. Something I'll have to remember next time I hit the twisties.
